News and Updates from the Student Loans Company [SLC]
HEURO November Workshop
7 November 2024
HEURO members welcomed Charmaine Valente, Funding Information Services Manager at the Student Loans Company [SLC], to the November workshop.
Charmaine gave a fantastic and detailed overview of SLC processes and procedures for students undertaking a placement abroad and promised to follow up with a bank of useful resources.
She writes:
I was delighted to have been invited to join HEURO to deliver a session on student finance for student studying abroad.
Following the meeting, here are some links to helpful resources and reminders of salient points:
- It is recommended that all universities use the ‘spreadsheet’ as this encapsulates all the information we require in one place.
- Four-letter code protects the spreadsheet – Each university has a four-letter code which is mainly used by the course management team. These departments usually sit within your registry/fees.
- Turing funding impacts the funding students receive from student finance maintenance loans. We recommend you advise your students when applying for student finance to NOT tick Turing funding on their application, as these students will not know if they are entitled to Turing funding until the universities have been informed of their allocation. SFE applications launch usually in early February.
- The Study Abroad Team have sent out the spreadsheet to our contacts with guidance on how to complete – you can find these with our presentations (both are available to download at this link and this link).
- If you’d like to receive my monthly bulletins, please contact me to add your details to the Funding Information Account Managers central list of contacts.
